The Karachi Institute of Kidney Diseases Association (KIKDA) is a leading public-sector organization dedicated to combating kidney-related diseases and complications. Established in 2009, KIKDA became fully functional in 2017 through a partnership with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
Today, KIKDA ranks as the second-largest provider of free dialysis and kidney care services in the public sector, following SIUT. With a mission to address the increasing burden of kidney diseases, KIKDA offers comprehensive and cost-free treatment to those in need, making life-saving care accessible to countless patients.
KIKDA is a beacon of hope for kidney patients, transforming lives and ensuring that no one is left behind in the fight against kidney-related health challenges.
We are proud to announce the successful completion of our project in partnership with the Karachi Institute of Kidney Diseases Association (KIKDA). With your generous support, we have raised $35,000 to help construct a new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 16 additional beds. This expansion is crucial as the number of patients suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD) continues to rise, overwhelming the existing facilities.
The new ICU will enable KIKDA to provide life-saving care to critically ill patients and handle emergencies more effectively. Thanks to your donations, we are now better equipped to offer top-quality medical services to those in dire need, ensuring they receive the critical attention they deserve.
At GIFT USA, we believe in the power of community to make a difference. Together, we have not only built new infrastructure but have also offered hope to countless patients and their families. Thank you for being part of this life-changing initiative!

Karwan-e-Hayat (KeH), a non-profit mental health care organization established in 1983 in Karachi, was founded by notable individuals including Begum Rana Liaquat Ali Khan, Dr. Zafar Qureshi, and Cardinal Joseph Cordeiro. Their vision was to provide free psychiatric treatment to underprivileged individuals suffering from mental disorders. Recognized as a tax-exempt organization under Pakistan’s Income Tax Ordinance 2001, KeH is Shariah-compliant, ISO-certified, and accredited by the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP).
KeH operates two facilities in Keamari and Korangi, supported by 22 community outreach camps across Karachi. Over 160 dedicated employees deliver services such as outpatient, inpatient, rehabilitation, and telepsychiatry care.
Currently, 96% of patients receive free or highly subsidized treatment and medications.
Infrastructure and Energy Initiatives:
With the support of Gift USA, Karwan-e-Hayat has undertaken significant infrastructure and energy projects to enhance its facilities and improve patient care.
- Elevator Installation: A new elevator has been installed in the male wing of the Psychiatric Care & Rehabilitation Centre (PCRC) in Keamari, connecting the ground floor to the first floor. This addition was a response to the critical need for improved accessibility for patients with mobility challenges, ensuring their comfort and safety, as well as the convenience of hospital staff.
- Solar Energy Project: To address rising electricity costs and ensure uninterrupted power supply, a solar energy system has been introduced at the 100-bed hospital. This transition has significantly reduced utility expenses, enabling Karwan-e-Hayat to allocate additional resources toward expanding its services. The solar solution ensures a reliable energy supply for both inpatient and outpatient services, enhancing operational efficiency and patient care quality.
GIFT USA proudly partnered with The NGO World to execute a transformative Cataract Surgery Project, providing 501 deserving individuals from Karachi slums with essential cataract surgeries. Mr. Turgut Durmus and Mr. Khalid from Deniz Feneri, Turkey, were also part of this impactful initiative. As part of this collaboration, GIFT USA contributed to organizing a special screening camp at the EDHI Centre for mentally disabled women, where 22 women received much-needed cataract surgery services. All patients were supported with free-of-cost services, including medication, transportation, and post-surgery care, highlighting our commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of those most in need.
